Abstract
In Space-Time Discontinuous Galerkin finite element methods for time-dependent partial differential equations time is considered as an additional dimension. By formulating the problem in space-time, the spatial and temporal variables can be simultaneously discretized using basis functions that are discontinuous both in space and in time. Space-time DG methods are well suited to solve a large class of partial differential equations on (time-dependent) domains and provide accurate and conservative numerical discretizations that are suitable for hp-mesh adaptation.
In this series of lectures, we will first consider space-time DG discretizations for simple hyperbolic and parabolic equations in order to explain the main concept of the space-time DG method. In the second part some examples from fluid mechanics will be discussed, such as the compressible Euler and Navier-Stokes equations, the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations, and if time permits, dispersed multiphase flows modeled by non-conservative hyperbolic partial differential equations.

The 26th International Conference on Domain Decomposition Methods (DD26), organized by the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), will now take place ONLINE from December 7 to 12, 2020. The purpose of the conference is to bring together mathematicians, computational scientists and engineers who work in the main themes of Domain Decomposition, including theoretical, algorithmic and implementation aspects of domain decomposition methods, solvers for multiphysics problems, parallel-in-time methods, multigrid and multilevel methods, fast solvers and preconditioning, and applications of such methods in physics and engineering.
We are now re-opening the call for proposals of minisymposia and contributed talks that fit the themes of DD26. Proposals should be in the form of a plain text e-mail to dd26@math.cuhk.edu.hk. For minisymposia, please provide a title, a short description of the subject matter, and a list of speakers for the minisymposium. Minisymposia may span one or more sessions, with each session consisting of four 25-minute talks, with an additional 5 minutes after each talk for questions. For contributed talks, please provide a title and abstract. Deadline for proposal submission: September 20, 2020.
Please note that all minisymposia and contributed talks that were approved for last December are automatically accepted. Minisymposium organizers will soon receive an e-mail asking if they want to keep their sessions, and whether there are any changes to the list of speakers. Speakers from accepted contributed talks will also be asked to confirm their participation via e-mail.
Thanks to the generous support of the Hong Kong Peihua Education Foundation, we are now accepting applications for financial support, including registration fee, from graduate students, postdocs and junior faculty based in Mainland China. We're excited to launch the "SN Partial Differential Equations and Applications" Webinar on August 24!
With this Webinar, our goal is to contribute an initiative to foster the communication of PDE- related research during these trying times. Just as the journal of the same name, the SN PDEA Webinar is aiming to bridge the areas of Mathematical Analysis, Computational Mathematics and applications of Mathematics in the Sciences.
The first presentation will be given by this year's Felix Klein Prize winner, Arnulf Jentzen, on applications of Deep Learning methods to the solution of PDEs. Future speakers include Julio Rossi, Thomas Bartsch, Weinan E, and Claudio Munoz.
Starting on August 24, Webinars will take place on Mondays on a weekly basis at 9am EST, 3pm CET. They will be held via Zoom and will be free to attend.
Registration for the first presentation is now open at
