2017年5月8~12日,由中国科学院数学与系统科学研究院主办,湖南第一师范学院和湖南理工学院承办的“数学优化学科战略发展研讨会及学术交流会”在湖南长沙、岳阳召开。来自中国科学院、北京大学、上海交通大学、香港中文大学、香港理工大学等16所高校和科研机构的30余位专家、学者出席了会议。
本次学术交流活动分为两个阶段。第一阶段是中国科学院数理学部学科战略发展项目《数学优化学科战略发展》的项目启动和研讨会,在长沙举行。讨论会由项目负责人袁亚湘院士主持, 湖南第一师范学院童小娇校长在开幕式致辞。 袁亚湘介绍了项目的立项背景和目标。他指出,数学优化是数学的一个重要方向,在生命科学、金融经济、信息处理、地球科学、材料科学等领域有着广泛的应用。在国际数学界,数学优化也越来越受到重视,提高我国数学优化的研究水平对包括数学在内的许多学科的发展有着重要作用。召开本次研讨会,就是要为我国数学优化的发展把脉,既要看到我国优化学科取得的成绩,更要看到当前面临的问题和挑战,抢抓发展机遇,认真凝练学科特色与重点,努力解决重大理论和实际问题,为我国数学优化学科的发展提出整体建议。随后,重庆师范大学杨新民教授、中国科学院大学郭田德教授、湖南第一师范学院童小娇教授、中科院数学与系统科学研究院戴彧虹研究员、中科院地质与地球物理所王彦飞研究员、南京师范大学韩德仁教授、上海交通大学范金燕教授、北京航空航天大学夏勇副教授、中科院数学与系统科学研究院刘歆副研究员等20多位专家学者先后发言,围绕学科前沿方向、学科核心课题、国际学术交流、学科队伍建设、学科交叉等问题展开研讨,各抒己见,献言献策,为优化学科的建设与发展提出了很多宝贵的意见和建议。第二阶段是“优化学术交流会”,在岳阳举行。湖南理工学院卢先明校长在开幕式致辞,研讨会由中国科学院数学与系统科学研究院戴彧研究员和南京师范大学韩德仁教授主持,香港中文大学深圳分校副校长罗智泉教授参加了研讨会。来自福州大学、河北工业大学、香港中文大学、中国科学院大学、香港理工大学、北京邮电大学的6位数学优化领域的青年学者作了精彩报告。与会的青年学者和专家就优化领域前沿问题展开了热烈而深入的讨论。
本次数学优化学科战略发展研讨会及学术交流会的召开,将为促进数学优化的研究与发展及相关领域的青年人才培养起到重要的推动作用。

2017年5月27日-28日,由科学与工程计算国家重点实验室主办的2017科学与工程计算论坛在我院举行。来自国内外高校与科研院所的近100位专家学者和研究生出席了论坛。
5月27日上午,科学与工程计算国家重点实验室主任张林波研究员首先致开幕辞,介绍了实验室发展沿革、重点研究方向和团队建设等情况。接下来,论坛围绕“保结构算法”的议题展开了一系列报告。西班牙Institut Universitari de Matemàtiques i Aplicacions de Castelló (IMAC )的Fernando Casas教授、瑞典Umea University 的David Cohen 教授、奥地利University of Innsbruck的 Lukas Einkemmer博士、德国FU Berlin的Ludwig Gauckler博士、瑞士ETH Zurich的 Arnulf Jentzen教授、德国Universitat Tübingen的 Christian Lubich教授、德国Karlsruhe Institute of Technology的Katharina Schratz博士、瑞士Université de Genève的Gilles Vilmart 博士等分别就指数扰动展开与几何数值积分、伊藤型随机薛定谔方程的指数积分子、Vlasov方程新数值方法、非线性薛定谔方程数值能量的长时间保持、高维非线性偏微分方程和非线性随机常微分方程以及高维非线性随机正倒向常微分方程的逼近算法、保持最大抛物正则性的A-稳定时间离散、非线性薛定谔方程、KdV方程以及Klein-Gordon型方程的指数型时间积分子、随机微分方程长时间数值解等主题作了精彩的大会报告。与会人员就相关问题进行了热烈的讨论。
本次论坛为相关研究方向的国内外专家学者提供了研讨与交流平台,以期深化相关研究领域的国际合作,更好地推动计算数学和其他领域的交叉融合。

5月27日,庆祝全国科技日暨创新争先奖励大会在京召开,共有10个奖牌获奖团队、28名奖章获奖人选、254名奖状获奖人荣获首届全国创新争先奖。我院曹进德院士荣获首届全国创新争先奖。
全国创新争先奖是继国家自然科学奖、国家技术发明奖、国家科学技术进步奖之后,国家批准设立的又一重大科技奖项,是仅次于国家最高科技奖的一个科技人才大奖。该奖项主要表彰在科学研究、技术开发、重大装备和工程攻关、转化创业、科普及社会服务方面做出卓越贡献、在国内外具有影响力的优秀科技工作者和优秀科研团队。每3年评选表彰一次,每次表彰10个科研团队,授予奖牌;表彰不超过30个科技工作者,授予奖章,享受省部级劳模待遇;表彰不超过300名科技工作者,授予奖状。
曹进德教授,博士生导师,四川大学理学博士,香港中文大学博士后,享受国务院特殊津贴。2015年当选为IEEE Fellow,2016年当选为欧洲科学院院士。现任东南大学特聘教授,校学术委员会副主任、理学部主任、数学学院院长、复杂系统与网络科学研究中心主任。现为Thomson Reuters工程学、计算机科学和数学三个领域的全球高被引用科学家(Highly Cited Researchers),江苏省高校“青蓝工程”科技创新团队负责人,江苏省“333 高层次培养工程”领军人才,2014年获Thomson Reuters首届中国引文桂冠奖,2010 年获江苏省科学技术一等奖(排名第一),2008 年获Thomson Reuters卓越研究奖(独立),2007 年获教育部自然科学奖二等奖(排名第一)。曹进德院士长期从事复杂网络与复杂系统、神经动力学与优化、多智能体系统研究,先后主持国家自然科学基金项目7项,教育部博士点基金3项,项目成果作为国家自然科学基金项目成果巡礼写入国家自然科学基金委2009年年度报告。已在SIAM J.、IEEE Trans.、Nonlinearity、Neural Computation、Physica D、J.Diff.Equ.和Automatica 等刊物发表论文数十篇,SCI他引超万次,ESI高被引论文49篇,H-指数为83,2006-2015期间6篇论文获中国百篇最具影响优秀国际学术论文。
此次东南大学共四位教授获创新争先奖状表彰,获奖人数位列全国高校第二。

国际超级计算机大会(ISC High Performance)6月6日宣布任命美国劳伦斯伯克利国家实验室 Erich Strohmaier博士和中国国家超级计算广州中心卢宇彤教授为 ISC Fellow。ISC Fellow 是对高性能计算(HPC)的发展,社区,以及 ISC High Performance 大会做出重要贡献的个人的荣誉称号。
Strohmaier 博士和卢宇彤教授将被列入 ISC High Performance Fellow 名单,目前拥有 8 名fellow授予称号活动将在6月19日,即 ISC High Performance 大会开幕式时举行。今年的大会时间是6月18日~22日,地点在法兰克福展览中心,将有包括研究人员,科学家和商业界人士在内的3000多名HPC 社区成员出席。
卢宇彤是中国国家超级计算广州中心主任,同时是中山大学数据科学与计算机学院教授,以及国防科技大学教授。卢宇彤教授参加了中国几代自主设计的超级计算机的研究和开发,还是“天河二号”超级计算机系统副总设计师。她在中国科技部,国家自然科学基金委,广东省的支持下,主导了一系列的HPC和大数据项目。
卢宇彤教授在2009年和2014年分别获得中国国家科技进步奖一等奖和特等奖。她的长期研究兴趣包括并行操作系统,高速通信,大规模并行文件系统和大规模资源管理系统,以及高级编程环境和应用。
卢宇彤说:“我很荣幸当选为 ISC Fellow。这个会议帮助扩大了我们的国际交流。ISC是连接了从东方到西方,从学术界到工业界的HPC社区的大家庭。参加这次会议,我遇到了许多有趣,才华横溢而且充满创意的人。将来,我想继续与我的同事们通力合作,消除HPC系统和应用之间的差距,减轻HPC技术的区域不平衡。我相信我们应该分享HPC研究成果,让科学、工程和社会从HPC的最新发展中得到最大利用。我希望能够对这一努力做出贡献。”
Erich Strohmaier 是领导劳伦斯伯克利国家实验室计算研究部门的性能和算法研究小组的资深科学家。他目前的研究重点是HPC系统的性能表征,评估,建模和预测;高级计算机体系结构和并行编程范例分析;科学计算核(scientific computational kernels)的分类和编程模式;以及数据密集型大规模科学工作流的分析与优化。他与 Hans W. Meuer 教授一起在1993年提出并创立了这个 TOP500的项目。
Strohmaier 教授在2008年获得ACM戈登贝尔奖,表彰他在创新算法的特殊类别方面的并行处理研究。他在德国海德堡大学获得物理学位和理论物理理学博士学位。
Strohmaier 回忆说:“大学毕业后,在新工作的第一天,我参加了ISC(当时还是叫曼海默超级计算机研讨会),由此开始了我的HPC职业生涯。ISC一直是我职业生涯中每年的重点。这个活动已经有很长的历史,现在被公认为是HPC领域的顶级会议之一。我很高兴,非常荣幸当选为ISC Fellow,希望今后能够为它做一些贡献。”
关于 ISC High Performance
ISC High Performance(国际超级计算机大会)首次举行是在1986年,是世界上最古老,以及欧洲最重要的HPC重要会议。会期5天,重点关注HPC技术开发的最新成果及其在科学领域和商业环境中的应用。

6月3-4日,由广东省高性能计算学会、国家超级计算广州中心主办,中山大学数据科学与计算机学院,广东省计算科学重点实验室、广东省计算数学学会承办,联想集团、广州安世亚太科技信息有限公司、宝德科技集团股份有限公司、道姆光学科技(上海)有限公司协办的广东省高性能计算学会2017年会暨超算与大数据应用研讨会在广州大学城南国会国际会议中心顺利召开。
首先,学会进行了换届选举。理事长许跃生教授致欢迎词,吴汝明秘书长做了上一届学会工作报告,监事长战荫伟教授做了关于学会换届的说明,之后表决通过了新一届理事会和监事会成员名单。许跃生教授当选为新一届理事长、战荫伟教授为监事长、李中华副教授为秘书长。许跃生理事长代表新一届理事会讲话,希望大家继续关注和支持学会的发展,为推动高性能学科的发展贡献力量。
接着进行了学术交流。中国科学院深圳先进技术研究院蔡小川研究员、中国科学院化学物理研究所李国辉研究员、中国民航管理干部学院民航业数据挖掘与分析实验室刘一主任、国家超级计算广州中心卢宇彤主任、中国科学院软件研究所杨超研究员(蔡小川研究员代)、华南师范大学顾凤龙教授做了精彩的大会特邀报告。华中师范大学杨光富教授、中国科学院广州生物医药与健康研究院许永教授等16名学者及企业代表做了分组报告。
最后,由学会常务理事朝红阳教授宣布2017年广东省高性能计算青年优秀论文评选获奖名单和广东省高性能计算学会首次设立的开放基金评审结果。由许跃生理事长、卢宇彤副理事长、陆遥副理事长为优秀论文获奖者颁奖。
此次大会有来自中山大学、中国科学院、中国民航、华南师范大学、华中师范大学、广东工业大学、广州大学等高校研究部门及相关企业代表近180人参会。会议取得圆满成功!

The HKMS Young Scholar Award and the Best Thesis Award were presented in AGM of HKMS 2017 held in Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
The 2017 HKMS Young Scholar Award was awarded to Eric Chung of Chinese University of Hong Kong, Xianpeng Hu of City University of Hong Kong and Ben Kane of Hong Kong University on the basis of a recommendation by a selection committee consisting of Ngai‐Ming Mok of Hong Kong University, Chi‐Wang Shu of Brown University, Zhouping Xin of Chinese University of Hong Kong and Shou‐Wu Zhang of Princeton University.
The text that follows contains the committee’s citation for each award.
Eric Chung is cited for his significant contributions to numerical analysis and scientific computing, in particular to discontinuous Galerkin (DG) methods and to multiscale modeling and computation. For DG methods, he initiated the study of a special class of staggered DG schemes for wave equations such as Maxwell equations which have a few attractive properties including energy conservation and optimal rate of convergence. For multiscale modeling and computation, he has developed an adaptive generalized multiscale finite element method which can more effectively solve multiscale problems without scale separation assumption.
Xianpeng Hu is cited for his substantial contributions to the theoretical analysis of some very important governing systems arising from continuum mechanics. In particular, he successfully obtained the Hausdorff dimension of reduced energy defect measure for the weak solutions to the multi‐dimensional compressible Navier‐Stokes systems in the class of P. L. Lions. His works on the global existence of classical solutions to the repulsive elasto‐dynamics and weak solutions to the incompressible viscoelasticity are also deep and far reaching both in theory and from the practical perspective.
Ben Kane is cited for his fundamental contributions to number theory, especially on the theory of meromorphic modular forms and polar harmonic modular forms. As two of many beautiful applications of his joint work with Kathrin Bringmann, the authors proved a Ramanujan type formula for the Fourier coefficients of any meromorphic modular form of negative weight, and gave an explicit construction of meromorphic modular forms of weight 0 as sums of polar harmonic forms.
The 2017 HKMS Best Thsis Award was awarded to Yalong Cao for his thesis “Gauge theory and calibrated geometry for Calabi‐Yau 4 folds” and Chang Liu for his thesis “Unified gas‐kinetic scheme for the study of multi‐scale flows’’ on the basis of a recommendation by a selection committee consisting of Weiping Li (HKUST), Zhouping Xin (CUHK) and Jun Zou(CUHK).
Yalong Cao obtained his Ph. D in 2016 from Chinese University of Hong Kong under the supervision of Naichung Conan Leung, Chang Liu obtained his Ph. D in 2016 from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology under the supervision of Kun Xu.

Brief Introduction
This summer school consists of two main lecturers, Beniot Perthame from University of Paris VI, and Panagiotis E. Souganis from University of Chicago. Their topics are “Adaptive evolution and concentrations in nonlocal parabolic PDEs” and “Stochastic Homogenization”. There will be some other lectures on topics from homogenization, multiscale computation to uncertainty quantifications.
The goal of this summer school is to introduce to Ph.D. students, postdocs, and young researhers basic background as well as recent advances in applied, computatinal and stochastic analysis for multiscale and stochastic systems arising from biological and physical sciences.
