主 题: Research Assistant position Available at HKBU
Applications are invited for a research assistant position in a research project in high performance scientific computing. The position is based at the Department of Mathematics in Hong Kong Baptist University. The beginning of the appointment will start in September 2010 or shortly afterwards.
The successful candidate should possess an excellent background in numerical solution of PDEs in a high performance serial and parallel Linux cluster computing environment. He/she should have practical and basic mathematical understanding of advanced numerical methods.
Knowledge in spectral collocation methods and high order WENO finite difference is highly desirable. He/she should be proficient in object oriented programming language FORTRAN 95 and C/C++, as one of main goal of the project is to build a C/C++ interface to a software library PseudoPack written in FORTRAN 95. The library PseudoPack (Google PseudoPack to find more detailed information on the library) uses all available advanced features of the FORTRAN 95 language such as pointers, dynamic memory allocation, procedural interface, operator overloading, module, optional arguments and keywords. Porting the library to machine with GPU processors, using CUDA, and implementation of other advanced numerical algorithms will also be another part of the project after the completion of above task.
The successful applicant will be responsible for the coding, creating machine specific makefile for installation of the library on various computing hardware, both web-based and written documentation, testing and benchmarking of the library. Furthermore, he/she will handle other project related tasks as assigned.
Based on the project requirements, prior experience in development of high performance computing software and familiarity in C-preprocessor, makefile, compilers and MPI are strongly preferable. Strong English written and communication skills are recommended.
The candidate should be a quick learner, mature, and possesses strong will to learn new things and to tackle new challenges independently.
The initial appointment will be three months. Subject to mutual agreement and satisfaction of the progress of the project, the appointment will be extended to a full year after the initial appointment. An extension of the appointment afterward can be considered subject to mutual agreement, satisfaction of the progress and availability of funds.
