The successful PhD applicant should possess excellent background in applied mathematics and strong interested in the area of numerical solution of PDEs related to high speed shocked flows. The PhD candidate should be a quick learner, mature, and possesses strong will to learn new things and to tackle new challenges independently. Strong English writing and communication skills are required.

* Postdoctoral Position
Applications are invited for a Postdoc position at the Department of Mathematics in Hong Kong Baptist University. The beginning of the appointment will start in September 2011 or shortly afterwards.
The successful Postdoc candidate should possess an excellent background in high order methods for numerical solution of PDEs for high speed flows with shocks in a high performance serial and parallel Linux cluster with MPI and/or GPU computing with CUDA. The programming language is FORTRAN95. The applicant should have practical and strong mathematical understanding of advanced numerical methods. Knowledge in spectral methods and high order WENO methods is highly desirable. The main project is on the numerical study of compressible Richmyter-Meshkov instability and Rayleigh-Taylor instability governed by the full Navier-Stokes equation in general curvilinear coordinates using high order hybrid numerical methods.
The candidate should be a quick learner, mature, and possesses strong will to learn new things and to tackle new challenges independently. Strong English writing and communication skills are required.
The initial appointment of the Postdoc position will be one year and renewable for another year,subject to mutual agreement, satisfaction of the progress and availability of funds. The salary and benefit will be commensurable to the qualification of the applicant.
