Geometry and Topology in Physical Models

International PhD Programme in Mathematics, Mathematical Physics and Computer Science

The Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science of the Jagiellonian University, in cooperation with the Institute of Physics of the Jagiellonian University, announce the introduction of PhD studies financed from the European Structural Funds in the framework of the International PhD Projects Programme run by the Foundation for Polish Science. The topics cover a wide range of mathematics in such fields as differential geometry, noncommutative geometry, general relativity, dynamical systems, partial differential equations, several complex variables, financial mathematics. Some focus will be on possible applications outside of mathematics and relations with other disciplines, especially physics and computer science.

The project consists of 16 PhD topics, 11 of them started in October 2010 and 5 will start in September 2011. The studies will last 4 years during which the student will spend 6 months abroad visiting foreign partners. Among other things, the programme offers in addition a financial support for international cooperation, to attend conferences, etc.The deadline for applications for the 5 projects starting in 2011 is April 30, 2011. The selected PhD students will obtain a monthly fellowship of 3000 PLN (tax-free) plus 500 PLN/month social benefits(during foreign visits this will be increased to 4500 + 500 PLN/month). Students from all countries are welcome to apply.
