The purpose of Hong Kong Mathematical Society Best Thesis Award is to recognize outstanding PhD theses (dissertations) in the fields of pure and applied mathematics, and statistics. All submissions will go through a formal evaluation process by a panel consisting of established scholars of the Society.
Submissions will be judged on the following criteria:
•Significance of results
•Originality of work
•Clarity of presentation
•Quality of writing
Eligible applicants for the Award are postgraduate students who have obtained or will obtain their PhD degree in the fields of pure and applied mathematics and statistics from a university in Hong Kong.
Candidates should normally be nominated by their principal supervisor.
Doctoral theses eligible for the Award must be completed (as defined by the candidate’s university) between 1 February 2017 and 31 January 2019. Potential candidates are required to submit:
1.a curriculum vitae with a list of his/her publications (no more than two pages),
2.a full thesis written in English,
3.a letter of nomination normally from his/her principal supervisor that:
(a) verifies his/her eligibility for the Award,
(b) describes and evaluates the contribution of the thesis to the literature and the nominee's role in the thesis research.
Each recipient of the Best Thesis Award will receive an official certificate and a cash prize. Up to three awards will be granted each year.
Application Deadline:
