Research has demonstrated that sensorial clothing comfort is a complex function of material properties, garment design, as well as conditions of use. This paper discusses a modern holistic approach to clothing comfort assessment that is based on a multilevel concept, advancing from the investigation of fabric properties to, ultimately, analysis of complete garment systems in controlled wear trials. It describes the value of the measurements made by advanced instrumented measurement systems when used as part of comprehensive research program designed to explain human response to the wear comfort of functional clothing and materials.

This paper discusses a number of computational problems in textile/garment industry. These problems cover quality inspection of textile products, on-line process control and monitoring, process and material modeling and simulation, CAD for clothing and materials, and computerized management of production and supply chain. Recently, more attention has been paid to modeling and analysis of human related complex concepts such as well-being, textile comfort and marketing elements and their integration in the design of new products. The related computational techniques include classical methods such as statistics, physical law based analytical equations, classical signal and image processing and statistical pattern recognition, and intelligent techniques such as soft computing and data mining. The selection of specific computational techniques is strongly related to the nature of the problem of interest. An optimal solution to a complex textile or garment problem can be found by combining several complementary techniques in a suitable way.

In this paper, the theoretical heat transfer of flexible thermal insulation composite fabric has been analyzed and the designing method has been discussed in systematically. Heat transfer analysis of flexible thermal insulation composite fabric is sometimes too complex to be used in practical design application. So, it is necessary to have simpler methods to evaluate the heat transfer flux through multilayer thermal insulation. The paper presented experimental and theoretical studies on the determination of the effective thermal conductivities of the flexible thermal insulation composite fabric. A mathematical model has been developed to describe the heat flux through the composite fabric, where the heat transfer consists of thermal radiation, solid spacer and residual gas conduction. The three distinct heat transfer modes are treated as parallel thermal resistances, and the multilayer thermal insulation behaviour considering a layer-to-layer approach and is based on an electrical analogy. Then, thermal performances of flexible thermal insulation composite fabric are presented, selecting different materials, different layers and different spacers. Finally, the prime structure of the flexible thermal insulation composite fabric is obtained through the theoretical and experimental analysis.

The extracted components of Chinese medicine were prepared by following different methods and were used to make microcapsules of the medicine. The two agent samples of the nano- Chinese medicine microcapsule agent and the Chinese medicine Microcapsule agent and two treated fabrics, was used to determine the anti-virus properties of influenza virus and Herpes simplex virus by fluorescent quantification polymerase chain reaction (FQ-PCR). The testing conditions included the agent concentrations of original liquid, 1/10, 1/100, 1/1000 and 1/10000, and virus contents of 5.00 × 107, 5.00 × 105, 5.00 × 103, 5.00 × 102copies/ml. The results indicated that all of the two agent samples of the nano-Chinese medicine microcapsule agent, the Chinese medicine microcapsule agent and the treated fabrics have good anti-virus characteristics. The nano-Chinese medicine microcapsule agent was more effective than the Chinese medicine microcapsule agent. The original style and good properties of the woollen fabrics were basically kept.

Mechanical and physical properties are potentially very important for biomaterials to be used as scaffolds. To investigate the effect of adding keratin to polylactic acid (PLLA) on the mechanical and physical properties of electrospun nonwoven fibrous membranes, a series of experiments were conducted, with PLLA/keratin mass proportions of 1:0, 2:1, 1:1, 1:2, 1:4 and 1:8 respectively. Measured mechanical and physical properties include tensile property, compressional property, water vapor permeability, moisture content and moisture management property. The results show that with an increase in the keratin content, tensile property of above membranes decreased; while moisture content and hydrophilicity are increased; compressional property and water vapor permeability, however, are not influenced significantly. It could be concluded from the experimental results that adding keratin into PLLA would significantly change some important mechanical and physical properties of electrospun nonwoven fibrous membranes, which could influence their performances as scaffolds for tissue engineering.

Digital fitting system is a virtual fitting system based on computer and internet technology. The aim of the research, described in this paper, is to share fundamental knowledge surrounding the development of digital fitting system. In addition, we present data, collected from 1050 questionnaires completed by both the consumers and managers in 10 cities of China, in order to analyze the requirements for digital fitting system in China. On this basis of this work, we conclude with some advice regarding the building of digital fitting systems.

The clothing pressure of tight seamless sportswear restricts wearer's movement and causes discomfort. In this paper, a research on the dynamic pressure comfort of tight seamless sportswear is conducted. The study samples are four men's sportswear of an ordinary style. They are made of same material with same style and cylinder diameter but with different organization structure and knitting methods. The dynamic pressure and pressure sense of different positions in tight seamless sportswear are tested by young men of similar body sizes. In combination with fuzzy mathematics and box control graph, the methods of objective and subjective evaluation are used to describe the pressure of positions and garments, and to summarize the relationship between pressure and comfort. The study will provide some useful guidance for design and production of tight seamless sportswear.

This paper presents a method based on lightweight JavaEE for developing the web sharing system of human body data. This method is based on the feature that the body data is collected by different 3D laser body scanners from different places and the design ideal of this method is directed by UP (The Unified Software Development Process). Some open source tools (such as struts, spring and hibernate) has been introduced in this project for building the project efficiently. In Web Sharing System of Human Body Data, struts framework has been used for building the presentation layer, spring for business and logic layer, hibernate for data persistent layer. For using different data persistent strategy flexibility, the MODEL (data access object) layer has been abstracted in this method. This method not only meets the requirement of OCP(Open-Closed Principle) in computer software development, and does the best way to avoid the problems of rigidity, fragility, immobility and viscosity, but also has the features of extensibility, flexibility and pluggability in software design.

Temperature-sensitive polymer membranes were prepared by combination of shape memory hydrophilic polyurethane (SMPU) and thermo-sensitive poly(N-isopropylacrylamide-co-sodium acrylate) [poly(NiPAAm-co-SA)] hydrogel micro-particles through composite coating method. These two intelligent polymer components endowed the composite membranes with “double switch” on the water vapor permeability. Poly(NiPAAm-co-SA) hydrogel micro-particles exhibited a reversible volume transition at lower critical solution temperature (LCST) around 34-36°C in the experiment. The size of gel particles varied more than 10-fold between temperature above and below LCST. It is likely acted as a sensor of temperature and as an switch to regulate the water vapor permeability of composite membranes. Moreover, there was also a dramatic increase in water vapor permeability (WVP) with an increase in temperature from 35 to 40°C for the shape memory hydrophilic polyurethane basement membranes. Two different procedures for WVP test were employed to simulate different application situations of the composite membranes. The temperature-sensitive water vapor permeability of composite polymer membranes was investigated by varying the content of hydrogel micro-particles. All of the temperaturesensitive membranes could have water vapor permeability controlled in response to temperature changes.

Supercooling effects of novel Phase Change Materials microcapsules incorporated with silver nano particles (NC-MicroPCMs) and conventional PCM microcapsules (MicroPCMs) are compared and evaluated systematically. Melting and crystallization behaviors of microcapsules with different processing parameters are investigated mainly by DSC measurements. Combinations of processing parameters are determined by a full factorial experimental design. The influences of processing parameters are discussed and analyzed by statistical softwares of SPSS and Minitab. The results have shown that the formation of nano composite structure can reduce the effect of supercooling. The possible mechanisms have also been explored.
